What is GDS Storefront Estimating and WinBidPro v15?

GDS Storefront Estimating is one of the oldest and friendliest programs used by the commercial glass and fenestration industry in North America. Founded in 1985 by Ed Greer, GDS is cherished by thousands of users as the simplest and most flexible estimating program for storefront and curtain wall glass and architectural aluminum. See a short video on an Overview of WinBidPro v15.

WinBidPro v15 is our latest software to serve this industry, and offers more power and flexibility than ever. One of the key benefits of GDS software is its ability to work with a variety of architectural metal vendors. Explore our site, and download a FREE 30-day trial to the WinBidPro software. Go to the WinBidPro v15 page to learn more and download a free trial.

If you are a v14 user and aren't sure why you should learn this new program, see a list of improvements that v15 offers over v14 in this PDF file. v15 Key Improvements

 Important GDS News

An updated YKK AP America catalog was posted on 01-20-12. Impact doors and door details were added to this new YKK update, as well as two new systems (YES 45XT and YHC 30OG). The Arcadia Architectural Products catalog was updated to an r2 revision on 11-10-11. Glass stops were removed from non-transom door frames, and blank parts were removed. EFCO Corp. catalog was updated to an r2 revision on 10-25-11. There were some part numbers that had no pricing (0 or otherwise), which caused problems in the Optimizer. Download this new updated catalog if you encountered this problem. The Tubelite Company, Inc. catalog was updated with a few price changes and some new 400 Series Curtain Wall systems added -- 09-01-11. A Cascade Aluminum catalog was posted on 08-16-11. This is a brand new vendor for GDS who services the NorthWestern U.S. and into Canada. A Vistawall-Oldcastle catalog was re-posted on 07-04-11 with impact doors and frames. Go to our v15 Catalogs page to download these new catalogs.
v15.1.27 Patch Now Available!
Go to the WinBidPro v15 page, read the directions and download the latest release of this new program. If you have a current subscription to the GDS software, this version will use the same license. Version 15 installs as a whole new program, and does not affect the v14 program that you may already have. You can use both programs until you get comfortable with the new one.

Important v15 Tech Issues
Tech Tip for WinBidPro Users!
Make sure you have the latest v15.1.26 update which includes
the latest update to the Repair Utility. If  you are a heavy user of WinBidPro, we highly recommend that you compact your vendor catalogs once a week. If you use the program less frequently, you can do this every few weeks or even once a month. Set a schedule so that you will remember to do this on a regular basis. It is very simple to do with the new v15 Repair Utility.

Here's how:
* Make sure WinBidPro is closed and that all network users are out of the program
* Click Start, then All Programs
* Open the WinBidPro v15 by GDS program group
* Click the Database Repair Utility link
* Click the Compact All v15.1 Vendors button

This will compact all catalogs in your WinBidPro vendor list. Doing this on a regular basis will keep these catalogs at an efficient size and will help prevent possible corruption that can occur when catalogs get too large.

System Requirements for WinBidPro v15

Thinking about a new computer? See the System Requirements for the v15 software and make sure you get the most out of your program.

Microsoft Windows 7 Compatibility
We have tested WinBidPro with Windows 7, and as expected, everything runs fine. It may still be necessary to install the software by using the "Run as Administrator" option that we recommend for Windows Vista, but everything works great. This should be a much faster and less troublesome operating system than Vista.

User Account Control (UAC)- Troubleshooting Tip!
UAC is something Microsoft added to Windows Vista and Windows 7. This is the security layer in Windows that prompts you to "Allow" when you install software, among other things. We have found in some cases that our software will not run on a Vista or 7 machine unless the UAC is turned "OFF". We still can't explain why some computers require this, and others don't, but we do know that this is often the culprit if our software will not install or run properly.

Sharing Catalogs: WinBidPro v15 allows multiple people to use the same vendor catalogs. Read this help document on Sharing Vendor Catalogs to learn how to set this up on your network.

Program Already Running Message: If you get a message that WinBidPro is "already running" on your computer when you try to open WinBidPro, you should reboot your computer. Sometimes this occurs after installing the program, and shouldn't happen again after rebooting. You also want to make sure you have the latest version of our software installed, as this issue has been addressed in an update. Check the WinBidPro v15 Download page for the latest update.
